چکیده

Thrombocytosis,a common hematologic finding can present as incidental finding and pose a great diagnostic challenge. Thrombocytosis can be due to reactive process or due to clonal disorder. Platelet count more than 1,000x10/mm is usually caused by clonal disorder. Reactive causes like Iron deficiency anemia rarely lead to platelet counts more than 700x10/mm. Here we report a case of a young woman presenting with iron deficiency anemia associated with thrombocytosis with platelet count 1,308x10/mm.

A 38-day-old female European shorthair cat was presented withacute onset of impaired consciousness, seizures and lateralised upper motor neuron tetraparesis. Haematology results showed severe microcytic hypochromic anaemia with marked anisocytosis and...

Neutrophil hypersegmentation and thrombocytosis in children with iron deficiency anemia.

Neutrophil hypersegmentation is an expected peripheral blood smear finding in megaloblastic anemias. But some clinical reports suggest that neutrophil hypersegmentation may also occur in patients with iron deficiency anemia. In this study we searched the presence of neutrophil hypersegmentation and thrombocytosis in patients with iron deficiency anemia but who had normal serum vitamin B12 and f...

Iron-Deficiency Anemia Leading to Transient Ischemic Attacks due to Intraluminal Carotid Artery Thrombus

Reactive thrombocytosis secondary to iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) is a rare but recognized cause of stroke. We report the case of a patient with iron-deficiency anemia presenting with multiple transient ischemic attacks (TIA) due to intraluminal thrombus of an internal carotid artery. The putative mechanisms underlying anemia and stroke syndromes are not completely understood, and it is believe...

Severe thrombocytosis and anemia associated with celiac disease in a young female patient: a case report

INTRODUCTION Platelet counts exceeding 1.000 x 103/microl are usually considered secondary to another cause, particularly to chronic myeloproliferative disease (CMPD). Reactive thrombocytosis due to iron deficiency rarely exceeds platelet counts of 700 x 103/microl. CASE PRESENTATION Here we report the case of a young woman presenting with clinical signs of severe anemia. Laboratory findings ...

Extreme Thrombocytosis: A Unique Constellation of Reactive Thrombocytosis, Iron Deficiency Anemia and Atypical Celiac Disease

Reactive thrombocytosis refers to elevated platelet count in the absence of a myeloproliferative or myelodysplastic syndrome and is secondary to a medical or surgical condition. Extreme thrombocytosis (>1000) is unlikely to be autonomous in origin and an underlying reactive process should be strongly suspected. A 22 year old apparently healthy male presented with fatigue of five months duration...
